Resections

Resection of the root apex (apectomy) consists in removing the root apex.

This surgical method is used for treatment of inflammatory conditions, infections or other diseases concerning the tooth root. During this procedure the access to the diseased tissue of the root is obtained from the outside, through jaw or mandible bones. Approximately 3 mm of tooth apex and peridental tissue should be removed. Resection of the root apex is often the last possibility of saving the tooth.
